How much does a luau in Oahu cost?
Most Oahu luaus run between $100 and $200 per adult. The most affordable is the Waikiki Luau Buffet from $101, mid-range options include Germaine's Luau from $109 and Ka Moana Luau from $135, and the most premium seating tiers reach $196 at Queens Waikiki Luau. Children's rates are lower and vary by experience — the exact price shows on each luau's ticket options.
Is the price I see the price I pay?
Yes. Prices shown are per guest in USD and include taxes and fees, with no booking surcharges added at checkout. The total you confirm on the payment step is the total you pay.
What's the difference between the ticket tiers?
Every tier gets you the same evening — the upgrade is usually seating, drinks or transportation. At Germaine's Luau, for example, Standard Seating ($109) is a shared beach table with two drinks, while Deluxe Seating ($139) is a closer reserved table with three drinks and priority buffet access. Chief's Luau offers an option with round-trip Waikiki hotel transfers for $178. Each luau's page spells out exactly what changes between tiers.
Do I have to pay for the whole group up front?
You book for your full party in one transaction and pay once at checkout. There is no deposit or account required — pick your date, guests and tickets, enter guest details and pay.
What's included
What does the price of a luau include?
All eight luaus on Oahu we list include a full buffet dinner. Nearly all also include hands-on cultural activities before dinner, live Hawaiian music and hula, and a Polynesian show. Most evenings close with a fire knife performance. Drinks, reserved seating and hotel transportation vary by ticket tier — each listing shows exactly what is included before you book.
Do all luaus have a fire knife show?
Most do, but not all. The Waikiki Luau Buffet trades the fire knife finale for an optional upgrade into the Rock-A-Hula production next door, and Queens Waikiki Luau closes with a hula finale instead. If the fire knife dance is a must-see for your group, check the inclusions on each luau's page.
How long does a luau last, and what time does it start?
Plan on two to four hours. The Waikiki Luau Buffet is the shortest at about 2 hours 20 minutes, most luaus run around three hours, and Mauka Warriors Luau is the longest at four hours including its activities. Start times range from 4:00 PM at Mauka Warriors to 5:30 PM in Waikiki, so dinner lands around sunset.
Are drinks included?
It depends on the luau and the ticket tier. Most tickets include one or two drinks, Germaine's Deluxe Seating includes three, and the Waikiki Luau Buffet's basic tier covers dinner and the show only. There is always a bar on site for additional drinks.
Will we actually eat enough at a buffet?
Yes — every luau serves an all-you-can-eat island buffet with kalua pork as the centerpiece, plus local favorites like chicken long rice, poke, rice and fresh fruit. Germaine's serves family style at your table, and the imu ceremony where the pig is unearthed from the underground oven is part of the evening at Germaine's and Toa Luau.
Cancellations & changes
Can I cancel my booking?
Yes. Bookings can be cancelled free of charge up to 48 hours before your luau — your confirmation email includes the cancellation link. Luaus marked with a Free cancellation tag follow this policy, and the exact terms for your ticket are shown at checkout before you pay.
What happens if it rains?
Brief showers are a normal part of Hawaiian evenings, and luaus run in them — venues have covered seating areas and the shows go ahead in typical weather. In the rare event a venue cancels an evening outright, you are moved to another night or fully refunded.
Can I change my date or guest count after booking?
Date and party-size changes are handled the same way as cancellations — through the link in your confirmation email, free of charge up to 48 hours before your luau, subject to availability on the new night.
What to wear
What should I wear to a luau?
Resort casual is perfect — aloha shirts, sundresses, shorts and sandals are all normal. Evenings are open air, so bring a light layer for after sunset, and wear flat footwear you're comfortable standing and walking in: most venues have grass or sand underfoot.
What should I bring with me?
Your confirmation on your phone, a light layer, and your camera or phone for the sunset. You'll want a little spending money or a card for photos, extra drinks and any crafts you want to take home. Leave anything you'd be upset to lose sand on at the hotel.
Planning your night
How far in advance should I book an Oahu luau?
Most luaus sell out 3 to 7 days ahead in peak season, and the smallest experiences go first — Toa Luau caps its groups and its VIP section is routinely the first tier to disappear. If your dates are fixed, booking as soon as you know them gets you the better seats at the same price.
Are luaus good for kids?
Yes — luaus are family events by design. Chief's Luau is built around audience participation kids love, Toa Luau's spear throwing and coconut husking are hits with younger guests, and earlier start times (4:00–5:00 PM) mean most evenings wrap by 8:00 or 8:30 PM. Look for the Family Favorite category.
How do I get to the luau?
Three of the luaus are walkable from Waikiki hotels — Paina Waikiki at the Marriott, the Waikiki Luau Buffet at the Royal Hawaiian Center, and Queens Waikiki beside the beach. Chief's Luau offers a round-trip Waikiki transfer ticket so you don't need a rental car, and the others (Germaine's on the leeward coast, Toa on the North Shore, Ka Moana at Aloha Tower, Mauka Warriors in Honolulu) are easiest by car.
Which luau should I pick?
It depends on your night. For the deepest cultural experience, Toa Luau or Mauka Warriors. For a classic beach sunset, Germaine's. For the best show with kids, Chief's.
